Today, New Mountain Innovations builds SIRENIX™, a simple, science-driven trap that uses natural cues and precision engineering to stop mosquitoes before they bite. We’re also developing professional solutions for pest-control operators, including ROV and drone deployments and permanent installations engineered for ponds and wastewater treatment plants.
In 2001 Michael Nyberg entered a high school science fair with an unusual idea. Instead of chemicals he used sound to stop mosquito larvae before they became biting adults. His project was selected as a finalist and drew attention for its unique use of low frequency sound in water.
Coverage from local press described how the project, inspired by time spent in acoustics labs, showed promise for real world mosquito control without harsh chemicals.
A science fair finalist showed that sound could stop mosquitoes before they fly.

Herbert Nyberg, a former U.S. Navy submarine officer, recognized the potential immediately. His career provided deep knowledge of acoustics and how sound behaves under water.
Together father and son refined the invention into a practical device later known as Larvasonic. This became the foundation for New Mountain Innovations.
News outlets and agencies noticed the early trials which showed promise for safe larval control.
Naval acoustics experience shaped durable designs suitable for real world use.
Lab and field trials demonstrated strong results without relying on pesticides.
Public health groups began viewing acoustic larviciding as an innovative tool.

Today, New Mountain Innovations builds SIRENIX™, a science-first mosquito control solution that takes lessons from acoustics, biology, and decades of field research. Unlike sprays or traps that only offer temporary relief, SIRENIX™ uses carefully tuned sound frequencies to stop mosquitoes at the larval stage, breaking the breeding cycle before they ever take flight. Our team continues to refine the technology for everyday homes while also expanding into professional systems designed for larger applications — from neighborhood ponds to municipal wastewater treatment sites. The goal is simple but powerful: provide protection that is safer for families, kinder to the environment, and tougher on mosquitoes than traditional methods.
